Citizenship
From 1st April 2011 the High Commission no longer accepts applications from people seeking to acquire Australian citizenship. General information about lodging an application while outside Australia is available on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship's website

Citizenship Applications and the Citizenship Test
Depending on your circumstances, there are different ways of becoming an Australian citizen. As a first step, you should carefully consider the information available
See: Applying for Australian citizenship.
From 9 November 2009, people are required to apply for Australian citizenship by conferral on the application form. If eligible you may be required to pass a test. If your application is assessed as acceptable you will be contacted and invited to sit a test.
See: Citizenship test.
To prepare for the test you should read the booklet 'Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond'. This booklet is available in English and a number of community languages spoken in Australia.
See: Citizenship resource booklet. (Alternatively you may order a copy on-line.)
Sitting the Citizenship Test in Singapore
You may sit the test in Singapore. If your citizenship application meets the requirements for further consideration you will be contacted by the Immigration Section to arrange for a test date.
Please Note: We will need to allow at least three working days from the date you are contacted, as the test document will need to be requested from Australia. Testing is done during normal counter hours. For our opening days and times
See: www.singapore.embassy.gov.au/sing/aboutus.html
Once you have sat the test your results will be assessed in Australia. This may take a few weeks.
Your application will be considered by the Overseas Citizenship Unit of the Department of Immigration & Citizenship in Melbourne, Victoria and you will receive an answer directly from that office about the results of your application.
If your application is approved, you will be invited to attend a conferral ceremony (eg. in Singapore) at a mutually acceptable date and time.
The processes outlined above may take several months (mainly due to processing workloads in Australia and transit time for the secure transfer of your papers from Singapore to Australia).
You may only apply for an Australian passport after conferral of citizenship.
