OZmosis2007 – Directions in Australian Design
OZmosis is back and it’s even bigger than before! Some parts quirky; some parts inspirational; and some parts downright breathtaking - don’t miss this showcase of the best and brightest in Australian design at Singapore Design Festival 2007.
OZmosis 2005 was an eye-opener, featuring acclaimed Australian fashion designer Akira Isogawa, eclectic glass art from Gaffer Glass Studio and funky jewellery and homewares from Dinosaur Designs. This year, OZmosis returns with even more great contemporary design in the first Australian showcase at Singapore Design Festival.
OZmosis 2007 brings works from more than 50 emerging and established Australian designers to Singapore. With six design exhibitions and events – including a feature film screening – plus a bunch of workshops and talks, there’s something for design buffs and consumers alike. And, recognising the significant partnerships being forged between the creative industries of Australia and Singapore, it also features the historic signing of an MoU between Australia’s State of Victoria and Singapore and works from leading young Singaporean designers educated at one of Australia’s most prestigious art and design colleges.
Be inspired by the innovative use of raw and recycled materials in the contemporary Australian jewellery and holloware on show at Beyond Metal. See the latest in Australian glass art and design in Mastery. Snap up works from some of Tasmania’s finest artists and designers at Singular & Multiple, and explore the weird and wonderful life, and mysterious death, of Australian design icon, Florence Broadhurst, in Gillian Armstrong’s acclaimed film, ‘Unfolding Florence’. For those who share Australia’s passion for the environment, there’s designer Trent Jansen @ UtteRubbish, talking about the latest trends in sustainable design.
And, for some local flavour, Design as Cultural Artefact presents a broad range of design domains by top Singaporean designers who’ve studied the prestigious Master of Design degree from College of Fine Arts (CoFA) in Sydney.
OZmosis 2007 is presented by the Australian High Commission in partnership with Austrade, Australian Education International, Arts Tasmania, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and the College of Fine Arts (COFA), with support from Tourism Tasmania and RMIT University. OZmosis 2007 is a Singapore Design Festival Partner.
