Can I take it to Australia?

Australia has strict quarantine and import conditions to protect our unique flora and fauna and ensure Australia's food supply is safe from disease and contamination.

That means you sometimes can't import certain types of food and plants.

There are tough penalties for people who break the law.

The ICON website from the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service is your first step in finding out what's allowed and what's not.

ICON contains the Australian import conditions for more than 18,000 foreign plant, animal, mineral and human products.

Tourist Refund Scheme

The Tourist Refund Scheme enables you to claim a refund, subject to certain conditions, of the goods and services tax (GST) and wine equalisation tax (WET) that you pay on goods you buy in Australia.

New arrivals

Visit the online gateway to information ranging from citizenship, health, settlement help for migrants, working conditions to buying a home in Australia.

Customs and quarantine

The Australian Customs Service manages the security and integrity of the Australian border and assists people and cargo to move in and out of the country.

Visit the Information for international travellers website to find out what items must be declared for inspection, what happens if you fail to declare or dispose of any quarantine items or make a false declaration, what happens to siezed items and what can't be mailed to Australia.
