Singaporean businessman awarded top
Australian honour

Today, the Australian Honours Secretariat announced that top Singaporean businessman Mr Ow Chio Kiat has been awarded one of Australia's highest honours.

Mr Ow Chio Kiat was appointed Honourary Officer in the Order of Australia by the Commonwealth of Australia.

The honour was given for his service to the development of commercial relations commercial relations and identifying business opportunities between Australia and Singapore.

The Australian High Commissioner in Singapore, Doug Chester said, "Mr Ow has made valuable contributions to both Australian and Singaporean business communities and has played a key role in strengthening our bilateral ties. He is a great friend of Australia, and we congratulate him warmly on this occasion."

Mr Ow is Executive Chairman of the Sydney based Stamford Land Corporation Ltd, which employs over 3500 staff throughout the region in its premier hotels.

He has been prominently involved in a number of Singapore and Australian business groups including the Singapore Australia Business Alliance Forum. In addition, his work through the South Australia Business Ambassadors Network was seen as invaluable during the negotiation of the Free Trade Agreement with Singapore.

Mr Ow’s connections with the Singaporean Government and preeminent business people have been extremely helpful in contributing to the growth of Singapore’s business and investment links with Australia.

He is also a generous donor to charitable and prominent educational grants for Australians.

Mr Ow joins the illustrious few Singaporeans to have received an Order of Australia award. Other Singaporean recipients include Mr Goh Chok Tong, former Senior Minister of Singapore, and Mr Khoo Boon Hui, Singapore's former Commissioner of Police.
